5/29/2015: 164 Fairway being listed for $1.2M?

164 Fairway — AKA the house that ate Fairway Street — is rumored to be coming on the market for $1.2M once construction is complete.  Guessing that will be late summer/early fall.

For those of you guys just tuning in, 164 Fairway sold last July for $640k — $51k over asking price.  The original house had 1,607 sq/ft.  The house is double — maybe triple — that size now.

5/26/2015: Kitchen renovation – plumbing

Onto plumbing this week. Our boiler is in good shape and we’re using toe kick heaters, so this job isn’t nearly as big as it could be. Radiators and old cast iron pipes have been ripped out. This bathroom has found a new home.

Gotta say I’ve been amazed how much duct tape the plumber has been using. Just going through reams of the stuff. Where I would have used pvc, a 2×4 or even cement – this guy is just covering shit in duct tape. Fine craftsmanship indeed.

5/22/2015: Paddy’s Pub expansion approved!

Big news outta Paddy’s Pub you guys.  Their plan to turn the 2nd floor into a bar and more seating for the restaurant has been approved.  Got a quick tour last week  — gonna be awesome.  Huge U shaped bar with TVs and seating for about 30 people.  If you’ve ever been to Paddy’s on a Friday or Saturday night, you know they get pretty jammed up and need more seating.

So that’s the good news.  Bad news is Paddy’s will likely be closed Summer 2016 for the renovation.  Word on the street is the whole restaurant is being renovated — not just the 2nd floor.  Kinda makes sense to just do the whole thing at once.

5/20/2015: RandlettPark.com reviews 50 Shades of Grey (Part 1)

So you guys on the street have been on me to read 50 Shades.  Said it had no literary value but read it anyway — kinda like the blog.  One morning I walked out to my car and it was on my windshield. So here’s Part 1 of my review.

So I guess 50 Shades is a new book that everyone’s talking about.  Somebody said there was going to be a movie too.  I don’t know.  The author is E.L. James.  Is this a guy or a gal?  Remember JK Rowling wrote all those books and everyone was like who is this person?  Same deal here with E.L.  We’re just never going to know.

The 2 main characters in this book are Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.  Total porn names.  Let’s start with Christian.

So this guy is like 28 and has a business empire and is already a billionaire.  Everytime E.L. describes him she says oh my.  Like Christian’s very handsome — oh my. Christian’s hair was wild — oh.my.  Christian took off his pants oh.MY.  This guy is a total control freak and I would probably never kick it with him.  He’s always telling Anastasia (Ana) to finish her food or go to sleep or do some other stuff.  Take a few plays off kimosabe.

Probably my biggest beef with Christian is he has this business empire and just stops working when he meets Ana, a 22 year old college senior. Who does that?  If I was a Sr. VP at Grey Industries, in meetings I’d be like — hey, anybody else concerned Christian doesn’t work anymore because he’s trying to make some college chick his new submissive?  This a red flag to anybody else?  No — ok let’s look at our 1st quarter numbers.

Ana is a college senior assigned to interview Christian when her journalist roommate gets sick.  That’s how they meet.  Ana has her own issues.  She’s a college SENIOR, doesn’t party and is still a virgin.  Uh — why even go to college?  My whole thing in college was let’s have a few cold ones and make some questionable decisions.  Not Ana.  Kinda girl who probably loves 8am classes.  Upside with Ana is she works at a hardware store.

Best part about the book so far is Charlie Tango, Christian’s helicopter.  I think E.L. said it seats 7.  He can basically fly this thing anywhere.  Remember in Pretty Woman when Richard Gere tells Julia Roberts to get dressed up and takes her to dinner — IN SAN FRANCISCO?!? Same thing here.  Total boss move.  Obviously I’ll keep you guys updated on Charlie Tango.

5/19/2015: 826 Watertown St. just listed for $1.499M — has 2 bars!

826 Watertown St. is a 4 bed/2.5 bath townhome with 4,791 sq/ft — that includes 1,411 sq/ft of space in the carriage house.  Enough about the carriage house you guys.  This place has 2 bars!  Somebody had their thinking cap on when they built this place. First bar is off the living room.

826 Watertown1

That’s like nicer than my kitchen.  2nd bar is on the 3rd floor.  In case you’re maxin & relaxin on the roofdeck and need to take it to Cold One City.

826 Watertown2

826 Watertown3

This place also has a kitchen, bedrooms and the other usual stuff.

5/19/2015: 20 Princess Rd just listed for $1.998M

Almost spit out my Coors Light when I saw this price.  $1.998M.  This 5 bed/3.5 bath house is off Waltham Street and currently under construction.

Basically in Big Red’s backyard.

399 Waltham1

And across the street from Old Yella.

First things first you guys, I couldn’t live on Princess Street.  Couldn’t do it.  I’d be like mumbling when people ask for me address.  20 (indistinguishable) Rd West Newton Mass.  Second, this price is on a pre-construction basis — which means it will go up when the house is completed in June/July.  I think if you change the name of the street to Horsepower Way or Cold One City Rd then it gets $2M.

5/15/2015: Kitchen renovation — insulation

So this is the back of my house.  Pete took off 3 layers of siding: wood shingle, asphalt shingle and vinyl.  Turns out there was no insulation.  How these pipes never froze I don’t know.

The guy that built this house in the 1920s took a few plays off.  I mean I know World War I sucked.  And then coming home to Prohibition probably had him like what was I even fighting for? Doesn’t mean you go around shorting people on insulation though.  That’s bad business.

Don’t worry gang.  We had the rest of the house insulated a few years ago.  Just not this side because we planned on renovating.  If you haven’t done a home energy audit through Mass Save — you should do it.  Your walls might look like this too.

5/13/2015: Party for Sebastian

So Sebastian (AKA Seabass) got his adoption papers and is officially a Randlett Parker. So we had a party and everyone showed up. Seabass likes to party. So do his parents.

Haven’t met Seabass?  Well he likes drooling (look at his shirt), crawling and generally being squirmy. Great kid with a huge toofy smile.

Of course the Scotch Club bros were there too.
